Outline.
A washerman has an
ass and a monkey --- hates the former and loves the latter --- the monkey’s
antics on the roof --- the ass does the same --- beaten.
The Story.
A washerman lived
in a certain town. He kept an ass and a monkey. He hated the former for its
silly habits. But he loved the latter for its funny tricks. One day, he was
greatly amused to see the monkey going through all sorts of antics, on the roof
of his house. He patted it, when it came down. The donkey decided to please its
master in just the same way. So, it went on to the roof of the house next
morning and began to jump and dance. This made the washerman very angry. He went
up and drove it down with a thick stick.
Here's a part you left out:
ReplyDelete"Pray, why do you beat me so?" asked the Ass. "When the Monkey did this thing, you all laughed as though it were funny."
The washerman did not beat the Ass again, but instead spoke firmly to him: "The Monkey knows his place. It is time you learned yours."
Moral: Be a leader, not a follower.
